What is a Minor Works Certificate?
Electrical installations often need alterations, repairs, and replacements throughout their lifetime. Electricians must inspect and test any changes or additions in accordance with BS 7671 regulations.
In doing so, they will issue an Electrical Installation Certificate or, in cases that do not include the provision of a new circuit, a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate. A separate Minor Works Certificate is required for each different circuit worked on.
Each Minor Works Certificate includes a description of the works, earthing and bonding arrangements, circuit details, and test results. They are designed to certify the safety of an electrical circuit after work has been carried out by a qualified electrician.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need an electrical certificate for minor works?
Yes – it is legally required to provide a certificate with any electrical work done (which may be a Minor Works Certificate). If there has been work which includes the provision of a new circuit, an Electrical Installation Certificate is needed instead. You can find an EIC template from FieldRocket here.
What’s the difference between a Minor Works Certificate and an Electrical Installation Certificate?
For smaller and simpler jobs that have not included the provision of a new circuit, a Minor Works Certificate is sufficient. Bigger jobs will require an Electrical Installation Certificate.
One thing to note is that if you are issuing a Minor Works Certificate, each different circuit worked on will require its own certificate.
The reason for this is that Electrical Installation Certificates are much more detailed and lengthy forms with additional fields for the design, construction, and testing of the circuit.
Can I keep and reuse this Minor Works Certificate PDF?
This template is completely free to use. You may even edit it according to your preferences (such as adding a logo).
Is there a better way to organise all my certificates?
Templates are a great way to start your paperless journey, but there’s still room for improvement.
